Let’s discuss Enabling In-Browser Protection with Microsoft Edge for Business to Secure Cloud Apps Without a Proxy. Microsoft Announced a Preview version of In-Browser Protection to improve the security of cloud applications directly within the browser.
This is a replacement for reverse proxy-based session control with a more seamless and integrated experience in Microsoft Edge for Business. With this feature, protected users experience a smooth experience with their cloud applications, with no latency or applications compatibility issuesand with a higher level of security protection.
Allows direct protection inside Microsoft Edge for Business for users subject to Security Center or Purview DLP session policies. In-browser protection with Microsoft Edge only available for Microsoft Defender for Cloud Apps commercial tenants.
In-browser protection requires several requirements. To use this, users must be in their browser’s work profile. Microsoft Edge profiles allow users to share browsing data into separate profiles, where data belonging to each profile resides stay separate from another profile.

Enable In-Browser Protection with Microsoft Edge for Business to Secure Cloud Apps Without a Proxy
As mentioned above, To use in-browser protection, users must also meet the following environmental requirements. Applicable Operating Systems are Windows 10 or 11, macOS. The Identity Platform is Microsoft Login ID. The table below shows Supported session policies.

How to Configure Settings
By default, In-browser protection with Microsoft Edge for Business enabled. You can turn integrations off and on, changing settings to suit usage Microsoft Edge for Businessand configure prompts for non-Microsoft Edge users to switch to Microsoft Edge to improve performance and security.

Configure In-Browser Protection Settings from the Defender Portal
You can easily Configure this setting from the Defender Portal. Enter Defender Portal with when going to System > Settings > Cloud application > Conditional Access Application Control section > Edge for Business protection. In Edge for Business protection page, configure the following settings as needed.
- Enable Edge for Business browser protection: The default value for this is Onbut you can change the setting to Dead.
- Tell users on non-Edge browsers to use Microsoft Edge for Business for better performance and security: If you select a check box, select one of the following values that appear:
User Experience
You can easily confirm whether the in-browser protection is active or not. For this, the user needs to select “key” icon in the browser address bar and search for “suitcase” symbol on the form that appears. The symbol indicates that the session is protected by Defender for Cloud Applications.
