Microsoft has announced an important update for Microsoft Defender that helps organizations better protect their AI agents. With the new one Microsoft Sign in Agent ID, AI agents can now have their own secure identity, similar to a user account. This feature is currently available on public preview.

How Entra Agent ID and UEBA Updates Improve Threat Detection in Microsoft Defender

AI agents help organizations clearly understand what each agent does, control what it can access, and protect against threats. Microsoft Entra Agent ID is part of Microsoft 365 Agent and available via Microsoft Frontier early access program. Microsoft Entra security features now protect agents, including Conditional Access, Identity ProtectionIdentity Governance, and Network Control.

Identity Protection for Agents

Microsoft Entra Agent ID helps protect AI Agent by identifying unusual or risky behavior early. It detects potential threats based on agent activityshares risk signals with Microsoft Entra, and works with Conditional Accessrestrict or block access when needed.

Login Agent ID support in Defender

In Microsoft Defender, the Entra Agent ID is used for identification and protection AI Agent. When an AI agent is created, it gets a special Entra Agent ID. Microsoft Defender then uses this identity to monitor agent activity. This will increase security. Defender detects unusual activity that limits access and blocks it.

Microsoft Defender Extends Identity Security to AI Agents

Microsoft’s announcement in public preview said that Microsoft Defender now supports Microsoft Entra Agent ID. These updates help organizations maintain AI Agent safe and controlled. Entra Agent ID Microsoft gives each agent its own identity, instead of using a user account. Because of this, organization can protect agents using familiar Microsoft Entra security features such as Conditional AccessIdentity Protection, Identity Governance, and Network Control.
